Cybernetic enhancements - phase 1

If it weren't for the fact that I'm a wuss, it would hurt and it's not a very girly thing to do, I find these specs fascinating, and wouldn't mind a pair. I mean, they'd never fall off, and I'd never set them down and lose them. And they're not an overly offensive piercing or anything...it's quite understated. Sort of makes me think of cybernetic enhancement to be honest, which is why they appeal a bit to me a bit more than they should. Hell, I thought the matrix pinch on your nose specs were rather cool...these take it even further...although I bet cleaning them would be a bit of an annoyance.
Still...10 points to the guy for a new idea.

What do you all think? Would you wear them?

Note to self...your cat is a ninja

Well, my parents are on their way home...it was good to see them for a bit. My Mum is getting tinier, but they are doing well. Mum didn't try and declutter as they were only there 1 night and she's a bit weaker from her newer heart medication, so we just relaxed, drank some tea and putted around a bit. It was nice to catch up on stuff and just hang out with them...I don't get to see them enough. And they even got up and had breakfast with me and dropped me off at work this morning on their way home...very nice.

Last night Zeke had an adventure. Zeke can and will get into anything at a moments notice and is (I'm sure of it) part monkey. We were showing my dad a place in one of the bedrooms where the heat duct had come unhooked and was loose in the floor, and asked him if he could help us fix it next time they were through. He agreed and we went off to have tea...and later that evening, in bed, we heard a yowling Geek howl from the bathroom, and I thought "oh Mum shut him in the bathroom cabinet, I'll go let him out". But no...he was actually in the floor below the bathroom. Poor guy...he went on a spelunking expedition through the open floor duct hole and couldn't find his way back out. We'd for gotten to put the cover back on the open floor hole. So we shone a light down and called him and bribed him back out with some treats. It took about 10 minutes and my Geek was quite warm by the time he popped his head out for some food, but he was OK. And now we know...his ninja skills include stalking us from behind the walls and below our feet.
Tricky little guy...:)

I had a bit of an adventure in incompetence land yesterday getting J's watch repaired, but in the end, I went to an actual watchmaker, and they fixed things. The person J took it to is apparently the worst guy downtown for watch repair, and I had a lady in a jewelers look at it...she was afraid that he'd actually broken off some of the switches, but recommended a watchmaker or sending it away to Casio for repair, as only a watchmaker can crack the thing open to check it out/fix it. That would take weeks if it was sent away, so I went back to the original screwer upper guy and demanded that they tell me the name of the best local watchmaker (crossing my fingers that there was one) and that they pay for any and all repairs to J's watch. They mumbled and cowered and sent me to a watchmaker nearby. Luckily I had a lot of time and headed out on my watch adventure.
It was worth all the hassle just to go there...it was a little watchmakers shop on the second floor of an old 1910 building, filled with old wall clocks, cuckoo clocks, an old tall grand chiming clock..and there were work tables strewn with little tiny gears and little tools and magnifiers all over them. The people who helped me were wonderful. They were actual certified watchmakers who took the whole watch apart and spent the good part of a n hour fiddling and tweaking to find that this particular watch (besides needing a good cleaning) has an internal reset for the buttons when both batteries are removed at the same time (apparently anyone good knows not to do this, as they can't reset it on their own), so they reset it and put it all back together and viola! Good as new. Whew...
Such a relief...it was a lot of stress, but in the end I'm glad I got to go up there and see that shop...I've never been to an actual watchmaker before. It was really cool.

Now I want a cuckoo clock...

Panic Mode

Eep.
My parent's are coming out of the blue to stay overnight after a funeral of a friend today. I don't think there's much to do to tidy the house...but then I haven't looked at it through the eyes of my Mum for a while. My Mum is a neat nut..she's a retired registered nurse...need I say more?
Ah well...it'll be nice to see them for a bit. I haven't had a good visit with them since before christmas. And I can finally give Dad his birthday present...I won a really nice pool cue a ways back, and he's been keen for it, so I figure I'll give it to him (I can't play pool to save my life) so he and his buddies can play pool together when they go down to Arizona next month. They always rent a house together, and there's a pool table in this one...so hey! Perfect...

On the front of other grumbles...J took his watch in to get the batteries replaced yesterday and now the damn thing doesn't work. Well *technically* it does, but none of the buttons do...so you can't reset the time, or the alarm so it's effectively a decorative bracelet now. I have to go in and see if I can get them to fix it and not screw it up any further. J is a picky guy, so finding another watch would be a long frustrating experience and he uses his watch all the time at work and is rather screwed without one...another annoyance to deal with. The whole reason he splurged on a really nice watch is so that he coudl finally have one he liked for years and years and not have to get another one. I have no issue bagging at repair people so I'm taking it to the repair place today to see what I can do to get it fixed...if not, they owe us a new watch (hope not...).

ANYway, this is turning into a bit of a whine session, so I'm going to cut myself off and go do something cheerful.
Have a good day...

Watching the game

Our neighborhood has provided us with some terrific entertainment the past few days...and will for a month or so to come.
They're digging up the road at the end of our street, and all down the adjoining major road a ways to replace a pipeline. Essentially all traffic through there is blocked off and there are huge digging machines mucking about in the road and some of the hugest saws I've ever seen for cutting through the roads. Our road is a bit of a major traffic route and now it's been blocked off. This is inconvenient, but not the end of the world. And it is extremely helpful in revealing to us who the jerks of the world are.

Funny thing is that although the road is blocked off with signs repeatedly placed obstructing the road, people have continued to edge around the sign near our yard, and drive confidently down to the intersection only to discover the road is *actually* closed and there's a big hole in the middle of it and so they slowly stop, stunned, and turn around to drive back up the closed road to go back out the way they came with a big frown on their faces. I just think - how much clearer can you be than "road closed?" Perhaps it's a bit misleading as you can still park in front of our house...they're being good enough to the people who live here to let us get in and out of our homes, but we still have to exit by the opposite direciton as well as the neighborhood is effectively shut off for the next month or so. We can even walk about in the middle of the road and wander down to watch the giant digamo thingys eat up the neighborhood...cool beans.
So, all weekend there's been a stream of cars driven by people who believe they are smarter than the rest of us...who sneak by all the barriers to drive all the way own the hill, only to be foiled and have to return back up. The first few times were odd, but now it's just sad and really quite amusing.
Silly people.
Don't they know that I'm sitting on my couch watching them and giggling?
I have my own private reality show...

Casshern

If you love anime, and Japanese films, may I suggest the movie Casshern to you...vigorously, while hopping up and down wearing a chicken hat. You might guess that I really loved this film. And no I don't have a chicken hat...but it I could convince you to watch this film I'd wear one. The website for the film is linked above...watch the trailer. You'll see what I mean :)

Casshern is a beautiful film set in the future, after 50 years of war...It's a difficult movie to explain, but I stumbled across a trailer years ago and have been aching to see it ever since. It is like an anime film, only it is*real*...and stunningly filmed and artistically rendered. It was shot entirely on a digital backlot, giving the director unlimited ability to create the world in which the story takes place. It's based on a 1973 anime film called Neo-Human Casshern, which I haven't seen.
*ahem*
Plot summary (kindly avert your eyes if you are the anti-spoiler type...please skip the next paragraph if you are)

The future, where robot armies have fought and devistated society, brings about a terrible challenge for a medical scientist, Dr. Azuma. In his quest to cure disease and ultimately cure his dying wife, an object that falls from the sky accelerates his Neocell research into curing injury and disease. He finds that he can heal with it...that it can even bring the dead back to life...with superior strength. He designs a suit able to harness the strength of a reborn superhuman, to keep them from tearing themselves apart with their untrained, unchecked new strength...just in case...you know. After some of the war dead are accidentally brought back to life, the government tries to irradicate them all out of fear. The surviving reborn superhumans escape and retreat. They find unused war supplies and decide to use them to fight back at the inferior humans that try to irradicate them. The scientist's son, Tetsuya, who has is brought back to life after dying in battle, relives the horrible futility of war, and tries to stop the advancing cyborg menaces as the only one who can possibly stop them, to save his family, and his love. In his final efforts, he takes on the name of the mythical godess Casshern, to try and make things right again.

This film is incredible visually, and although I'm sure something is lost in translation, if you are a lover of Japanese animated films and anime films, I really must recommend this film to you. I *loved* it. It took years to make it to a rental house here, but I highly recommend it. It was beautiful and a somewhat steampunk in style.
Check it out.
Or don't.
Y'know...

Yowling Science of Paint

Thorugh significant and colourful experimentation, I have come to the conclusion that our cat Gavin either loves the Beastie Boys or hates them.

Tonight I was doing some painting of a chair (yellow) and a tool rack (red) in my mad scientist closet and was listening to some Beastie Boys...and the cat kept howling along. Not just any howl, but full out yowling, echoing in the shower operatic "he's here the Phantom of the Opera!" sort of yowls, and only stopped when I turned off the music when I was done. Gavin loves to sing and yowl at night (while we (try) to sleep) but this was a special opera just for me, the boys and the mixmaster himself. This has happened before...only when J is at work (when he is home I, music and everything but food do not exiist for this cat...). I may have J try it out next time I'm out and see if he gets the same effect.

A little more solidity to my theory? Well, now that I'm washed up, have administered tummy rubs to both cats and made some tea and put on Moby...nothing.
Hmmm...

Wow...what a lineup. But that's OK. Look at me...hay hay hay!

A dull day and it's barely started. For some reason I have the Kids in the Hall Flying Pig in my head this morning...

and NOTHING ELSE...Dum dum DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
Nope.
Nothing to see here but the slightly frozen tumbleweeds.
I shall return when the fog of boredom lifts...which I suspect will happen conveniently at about 4:31 PM when I exit the building.
Later...

Lunacy

I was hoping to have all these amazing photos of the moon and the eclipse and you know what?
I am a *sucky* photographer.
I had a tripod and diddled about with all manner of settings and sort of got a half assed image, but nothing to ge too excited about.
So please just go here and have a look if you want a nice photo. I haz none.
It was pretty tho. Saturn and Regulus were quite bright to once the eclipse was full. After mucking about in the yard with the camera and tripod I gave up due to cold and tiptoed in, made some tea and popcorn and grabbed the binoculars and a blanket to watch it all from the comfort of my living room - I have a great view of the moon and night sky from there...I fell asleep in the living room looking at the moon and woke up when J got home all very stiff and crunchy. BUT, had a nice evening.

Wednesday, February 20, 2008

Ah yes...

I just had to say that the new Hellboy movie looks obscenely good.
I have made little sqeuaky sounds while watching the trailers.
So um...yeah. That is all really...

It's heaven, being on the moon

I'm quite excited as tonight is a full lunar eclipse at about 9:30 PM. According to the weather gnomes the sky is supposed to be clear, and even if the weather is harsh (shouldn't be too bad), I can either watch the moon from my living room (warmer, where I can take a few pictures but not as exciting) or walk down to the river to watch the moon eclipse over it. I think I may wander down the river path and see what I can see.
Poor J has to work so he'll miss it, but maybe I can snap a photo or two for him...

For some reason all I can think of this morning is the song the cartoon astronaut would sing on the moon on Sesame Street:

Oh the moon in June is a big balloon
It makes me swoon, makes me croon.
It's heaven, being on the moon.

Poor chap lost his head somewhere in Polynesia...

It's a sunny family day. In my PJs in the afternoon with an obsenely cream filled cup of coffee...grand.
We've just returned from a lovely weekend holiday away out west to Polynesia...land.

OK, so it wasn't quite the real thing, but there was a giant rock tub with loads of candles and wine and cheese and loveliness and a cheesy fake boat catamaran bed to float down the cheesy fake river on...all near to an IMAX, perveyors of fine bubble tea and a pub with oatmeal stout on tap.
And even tho I'm back home all safe and sound, I'm still not at work today.

Nyeah.

I'm sipping java in my PJs...
*tee hee*

Fridays had been right torn out

Well, I've not much to say...it's warmed up a bit but nothing spectacular as of yet.(-15 (-23 with wind) and a high of 0...maybe...we'll see just how many souls were sold...)

It's my day off, and I just finished working out. Now I'm off to devour the last of my squash bread with some of my Mum's crabapple jelly on it and see where things takes me.

I'm off on an fine day of adventure in the wilds of life.
I'll make sure not to feed the wildlife and always know where my canteen is.
Details reports from the front will arrive as things unfold.
Buhbye.

Barometric pressure rising...

OK...it's been subzero for ages and we're all dying for warmth. Any warmth. Heck I'd settle for going for a walk outside and not cursing the sky.
So altho it's -34 today with the windchill (-25 without) today, we are being told by Environment Canada that tomorrow is a high of +2. Maybe some snow...or even rain?
What?
How is that possible?
Can the weather really go up that much in one day?
Has someone finally given in and sold their soul or something, because this is really wierd.

I figure that it's all because I'll be off that day and driving about for most of it in the car - I'm sure of it? The weather is trying to kill me any way it can...if it can't freeze me, it'll take whatever it can get. Think I'll put some bubble wrap about the car before I go out...

Luv Day

Steal my heart and hold my tongue.
I feel my time, my time has come.
Let me in, unlock the door.
I've never felt this way before.

Hold my head inside your hands,
I need someone who understands.
I need someone, someone who hears,
For you I've waited all these years.

For you, I'd wait 'til kingdom come.
Until my days, my days are done.
And say you'll come, and set me free,
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me.

~Til Kingdom Come, Coldplay

This song makes me think of you J.
Luv ya. Today and every day.

Apparently I should eat more lard

Again?

If one more person asks me if it's "cold enough for me" my head will explode and I will begin shooting laser beams from my neck.

Don't make me destroy you.

Stupid cold.
Stupid lack of lasers.

Monthly meme

Because I'm suffering from blase', here is a current update on my current life...currently.

Current clothes: Jeans, my favourite green tshirt with crossed daggers, a crown and flowers on it, blue winter boots, black specs

Current mood: Mellow. I've got work to do and such...I just would love to go for a walk at my lunch break and then not come back.

Current music: Shpongle - Tales of the Inexpressible

Current annoyance: Winter. All work and no play meke Geosomin something sonething...
*grrrr* I really want to go for a walk, but it's just to damn cold right now. Walking to the bus is just not enough...

Current thing: Baking. It's been very tasty, and warms up the house quite nicely, but considering it's coinciding with an effort to workout more and get in shape and lose a few christmas pounds, it's kind of counteracting the fit stuff. It *is* tasty tho...

Current desktop picture: A picture of a sunset over a field. There's a tree too. It's pretty.

Current book: Human Nature. Finally finished the His Dark Materials trilogy and am looking for something less convoluted, more coherent and not so emotionally draining to read. This is a nice read...while I hunt for my next read.

Current song in head: Jets by Blur. I listened to Think Tank on the bus this morning and it's stuck there...even Shpongle won't get it out.

Current DVD in player: Well my morning Ball exercise DVD, which has reappeared from the abyss it was in for a few months. I'm glad, as I was working out to the audio file of it on our computer and actually seeing the people making me torture myself is slightly more fulfilling than being ordered around by a voice from another room...

Current refreshment: Just finished a cup of coffee. Yum.

Current worry: Oh this and that. Nothing really concrete, which is actually nice...I just can't shake a worry that there will be a surprise $$ crisis now that all is sort of back to normal. Guess we'll just see...I just need to get used to it all again I think.

Current thought: I wish I was at home curled up with some tea and a book. That's saying something, as I've had cabin fever as of late. I went to bed early so I'm not tired, and I have an exciting new protocol to do today, but I'm cold and I could do with a cuppa and a good book. Don't feel like doing anything at all today.

Well off to that protocol and a meeting. Break's over!

Junk. I haz it.

I have learned just how much crap can accumulate in a room of misc craft stuff over 4 years - 4 full garbage bags. That doesn't even count the huge pile of stuff I have to sort and fold for good will that is in the spare room.
Sheesh. Some of the stuff I looked at and thought "what the hell do I have *this* for?"...like 52 ADT signs, movies stubs, bits from broken tools (??), dried up paints and glue and tonnes of printed off recipes and things that seemed neat at the time but I have never even looked at since I brought them home. This room was the depository of all things with no home for the past few years and it showed...I'm glad to have cleared it out finally. It was really out of hand, and rather depresssing to do work in. Now we can move the computer up there and not lose it amongst piles of junk. And my mad scientist closet is somewhat set up and ready to go. I just need a few shelves for some random things and iPod speakers and I'll be good to go.

Now I should say that not every old recipe from upstairs was wasted. After finishign up with the upstairs room I made up a few loaves of bread from a recipe I found in there. I'd bought a butternut squash months ago and it was about to go bad. I kept staring at it wondering what to do with it (never thought of that when I bought it - it just looked cool). So I had it mashed up and decided to make somethig tasty with it on Sunday.
Holy freaking cow...did you know that butternut squash bread is absolutely fantastic? Seriously. Slightly sweet nutty soft and light bread baked to golden yumminess. I think the trick was I let the second raise go on for a while longer than it said (kitchen was cold and I was distracted). It was so very yummy...we practically ate a whole loaf of it in one day. Cold weather = baking in my life and I think from now on I'll make a point of watching a movie when I make bread for it to rise, because that was the trick in my chilly house. I'm officially calling this Crusade Bread from now on, as thanks to Indiana Jones and his Dad, it turned out amazing. I have some and some nice yummy stew for lunch. Mmmmmm.

Other than that...not much going on here. It's retardedly cold out and has been for days. It just won't let off. We went out for chinese new year on friday and ate an 8 course traditional meal. I ate *way* too much, but it was a lot of fun...there were even dragon dancers. In the hopes of advancing science, I put on my investigating hat to find that most Chinese beer tastes a lot like Heineken. J even won a door prize, so we got the whole experience.
I'm waiting for the year of the Ox to come next year (a Yin Earth year) so I can have my year. I find the Chinese horoscopes interesting, in my brief snoops into it the past few days. It seems all horoscopes from different cultures have around 12 categories, with cycles of multiples of 12, but unlike other horoscopes my description and J's (he's a tiger) tend to match us rather well in this one. As a bonus, mine said "beware the sheep" which still cracks me up. According to the horoscope I am: Dependable, calm, methodical, patient, hardworking, ambitious, conventional, steady, modest, logical, resolute, tenacious. I can be stubborn, narrow-minded, materialistic, rigid, demanding. I conquer life through endurance, application, and slow accumulation of energy (this is *very* true). I am genius in the art of meticulous planning, hardworking, discreet, modest, industrious, charitable, loyal, punctual, philosophical, patient, and good-hearted individual with high moral standards. On the downside, I can be self-righteous, vain, critical, judgmental, myopic, narrow-minded, petty, and pessimistic.
What can I say? When it's cold out and you have cabin fever, you read up on things :)
Gotta go be useful.
Later :)

Friday Favourites Vol. 7: The desert needs a beer

Nothing as long winded or elaborate as last week I'm afraid.

I will just take a minute to pass on another favourite album of mine: Think Tank by Blur

Now, I have to admit, I'm not a huge Blur fan...a lot of their earlier stuff was a bit "off" my taste and a bit poppish and too similar to Oasis at times...but I liked both the Gorillaz side project albums that the lead singer has done, and their newest album (a few years old now) is a bit of a departure from their old style of music, with the loss of their one lead guitarist. And it turns out, I *like* their new sound.
A lot.

This album is fantastic. It's warm flowing sound, with still some of the louder Blur woo hooey tracks (like Crazy Beat and We've Got a File on You) and a lot of music that just really sounds great...with a lot of emotion and a good rythm...touches of the unique. The guitar melody of the song Jets was stuck in my head for weeks after I first heard it, and other songs like On The Way To The Club and Moroccan Peoples Revolutionary Bowls Club are all time favourites of mine. I am racking my brain to try and recall why they album has an explicit sticker...don't let it scare you off. If I can't even recall why, it can't be that bad :)

So have a listen. If you don't like Blur, you may now. It converted me...

Boot to the head! (nah nah...)

People talking in movie shows
People smoking in bed
People voting Republican
Give them a boot to the head...

I just tracked this down...haven't heard the Frantics in years.

Enjoy!

TNT for the brain

Well...I've been baking again.
At the Alzheimer's Walk, they gave out a few "brain" happy recipes, and I thought I'd try one out last night. Baking stuff when it's really cold out side (and I have PMS/eat the whole pantry cravings...*ahem*) cheers me up. I love muffins...they're one of my favourite things...and favourite things to *make*. I make damn fine muffins, if'n I do say so myself...working as a baker in university taught me the muffiny secrets of the gods.
Now, of course I did doctor the original recipe a bit, as I had no buttermilk and put raspberries in them instead of the dried cranberries called for (J doesn't like cranberries...don't even *think* about raisins...foul little things...).
So ANYways, I present to you, my recipe for:

Raspberry Flax Brain muffins
(see what I did there? Brain, instead of bran? Eh? Eh? Yes hold your applause...)

2 eggs
1 cup brown sugar (packed)
1 + 1/4 c milk
~1/4 c melted butter (~2-3 T)
1/3 c oil

1 c whole wheat flour
1 c white flour
3/4 c bran
3/4 c ground flax
1 t baking soda
1 t cinnamon
1T baking powder
1/2 t salt

1 c raspberrires

Whisk together the wet. Mix together the dry in a separate bowl and then stir together with wet until just mixed. Stir in fruit. Place in greased muffin tins (fills cups rather full) and bake @ 375 for ~20 minutes. Try not to overbake - check with a toothpick @ about 19 minutes...cool on rack. Once cooled, store in air tight container. It makes 12 yummy muffins.

For flax flour, you can buy whole flax and grind it up in a food processor, but our local grocer sells ground flax, so I used that. The recipe said 1 1/2 c buttermilk, but I forgot to buy some and wasn't about to walk 15 minutes in the freezing cold to get some - they still tasted very nice with my lazy replacing. I suppose you could put in 1 c milk and 1/2 c fat free sour cream and it would also be good...I ususally can't be bothered with buttermilk. You can't buy a 500 mL container of it where I am, and I never seem to use it all before it goes bad, so I just work around it. It always tastes better when you actually use it, I know, I know...but I'm trying to find healthier recipes. I'll probably do the fat free sour cream thing next time instead of butter.

I have to say I'm impressed with these...they're not too bad fat wise, and are very good for you ,what with the flax and bran. I'm having one right now the next day at coffee break and they're still moist and tasty. They aren't too dense or heavy...so I give them 4 1/2 out of 5 golden brains. I will definitely make them again, probably with blueberries next time.

And my brain never felt better...

They're justified and they're ancient...and they drive an ice cream van

The last train left an hour ago, They were singing "All aboard. All bound for Mu Mu Land"
Then someone starting screaming "Turn up the Strobe" ...

Well I woke up this morning, worked out and feel absolutely giddy with energy for no damn good reason, but you know what?
I'll take it :)

I spent last night restocking our house and pantry after striking and chrsitmas and all that...it seems we've officially gotten past the strike and holidays, and now have all the bills caught up and food and things are stocked up again. It was a lot of stuff, but I'm a hoard for emergency sort of girl, and it helped us out in the past few tight months...I feel more at ease with things all topped up again (and more than a bit justified about doing it).
And as a bit of a treat, a CD we tracked down on ebay arrived and we had a listen. It's an old out of print KLF remix EP with All Bound for Mumu Land and a few other tracks on it. One of the tracks even had Tammy Wynette singing vocals...not sure why, but it was good. I like hunting down odd music and having a listen, particularly remixes or side projects by musicians I already enjoy...it's not always good, but mostly we've been lucky.
Then next obscure album on my *want* list is the Space CD put together by Jimmy Caudy and Alex Patterson. It was originally to be the first Orb album, and is a bit of a concept electronic album, with a track for every planet in the solar system...it is out of print and very hard to find. The KLF, in a fit of pique, deleted their entire catalog when they broke up, so a lot of their older stuff, like this album and the EP we just got, is hard to get, even pirated copies. I'm a "support the artist" sort, so I've tried my best to get the actual albums of things, but it's tricky sometimes. I've bid on a few of them when they come up on ebay, but they're pretty pricey and I always seem to lose out (I just can' t justify over $75 on a CD). I don't really care if I own an original...I just want to hear it.
But I digress...

Have a wonderful day everyone. I know I will. I'm off to anexperiment..:)
Later tater.

Winter blahs

Winter blahs are upons us again. Hibernation is here and it makes me want to sleep and eat. I'm enjoying it...but not getting a lot done. Snuggling and watching movies is much more my level at the moment. I'm almost done the last season of Babylon 5. After that, whatever will I do?
I've made it a piont to exercise every day this month to pick up my metabolism a bit and set up my mad scientist's closet and reset up our den's computer by the end of Feb.

I'm itching to start making a stained window for my Dad, but man...it seems like so much effort. He's given me the initial ideas, so I've sketched out a "dad approved" design of a bear by a rive rwith a fish in it's mouth. Now I have to template it out, and when they are here to visit next Mom can pick the coloured glass and I can make it for them. They've wanted a window for the cabin for a long time, so I'm glad to finally make them a window for the door there. My last couple of windows turned out quite well: I'm particularly proud of the one I designed and did for Uncle George. And the one J and I designed for our back window turned out rather keen too. I've been itching to have a place wher eI can leave out all my glass gear and not have to meticulously clean it all up whenever I pause to keep the cats out of it. Having my own domain for this will be great! I can just close the door and come back to it later...
Plus I finally picked up a dress form in the fall and instead odf sewing for everyone else I can now make things for me too. I promised J a cool coat, and after that...something for me. Not sure yet. We'll see. I just got a Serger, so *now* I can make stuff other than costumes that'll stand up to washings and wearings. I'm quite excited. (Now I just have to figure out how to thread it! The place I bought it from offers a "how to use your new machine class", so I'll definitely be taking them up on it...I'v eonly mooched other people's sergers. I have no idea how to load them up)

But...despite all my grand plans, there is nothing real to work on yet...until my room is done... so I have ze blahs.
What do you guys do do beat the winter blahs?
I could use some ideas...

I love it when a plan comes together

I finally braved the basement to set up my mad scientist domain in the basement. Step one done. Dad helped me reno it last year and I've taken forever to move all my crap down there and then sort it all out...but I finally finished the major stuff over the weekend.I've got space for making windows and sewing now and all my kit down there is sorted.
Now I have to mave all the leftover craftish stuff from my den upstairs down to my domain so we can move the computer up there from the basement. THEN J can start to have his music gear set up down where the computer used to be...and we'll have a kitchen table again.

Hooray!

Don't get too excited tho. At the rate I'm going it'll be March before we get it all sorted.
It's nice to have it all coming to gether though. Between that and the cauliflower cheese and fresh pinapple this weekend was rather nice...

Friday Favorite, Vol. #...um...I forget...6? Yeah 6 is good.

Usually I pick an album but I've had a lot of singles running laps about in my head, so I think I'll make a list of a few of my favourite songs at the moment. Some are long time favourites, some are wierd, but all of them are good. They're not all super catchy or dance your ass off tunes...just favourites of mine.

1. Pop Juice - Gomez. Well pretty much any song by Gomez could wander onto this list, but at the moment, this is my favourite song by them. It's an extra track off a 2 disc compilation album...a song about an alcoholic. But it's good. Really. A close second in line right now would be Whipping Picadilly....couldn't find Pop Juice so have a listen to that instead. It'll do in a pinch.

2. Intergalactic - Beastie Boys. This song always makes my smile. The whole album is good really, but this track is great...the video is a laugh too.

3. Hell Yes- Beck. This is my current favourite song off an older Beck album. He did a remix of it on a Gameboy Variations EP that was even better. His most recent album is fabulous, but at the moment this is my favourite Beck tune.

4. Stained Glass and Chrome - Ott. this song is one of my most favourite songs of all time. It is off an ambient dub album by Ott...and it makes me happy. There's no official video for it but you can listen to the track here on this fruity video made with quotes from the Lazy Man's Guide to Enlightenment. And the album has a smiling robot on it. How much better can it get than that?? :)

5. The Test - Chemical Brothers. This song will always be a favourite of mine. And the video is rather cool too.

6. I Know My Chicken - Cibo Matto. A lot of Cibbo Matto stuff is a bit hard to listen to, but this song...man it's stupid and catchy. I heard it once long ago in my car driving about in our car late on a snowy Saturday night listening to Brave New Waves on CBC radio to escape January cabin fever. I still love it...can't help it. It's not the real video, but at least you can hear part of the song...

7. Levitation Nation - Shpongle. Couldn't leave out a great dance track from the last Shpongle album. Great song...great album. Shpongle is great at mixing ethnic anf organic percussion with techno and trance music. I've had the joy of hearing him mix live...this album makes my feet move every time.

8. Mi Swing is Tropical - Nikodemus. This album is fantastic. I've linked to this song before...but it is so good. It had to be on the list.

9. Warning Shots - Thievery Corporation. I love Thievery Corporation. They have this crazy funk/dub/vibe/reggaeish/something else. I don't quite know how to describe them. They even did a great remix of old funk tunes from the Verve label archives. This song doesn't quite encompass all they sound like... but it's my favourite of theirs at the moment...

And so there you go. I was going to list 10, but this is taking too long and I should end my coffee break and get back to work. I'll save some more for another time.

Oh OK. One more...#10. Natural Blues by Moby. Longtime favourite from my favourite album of his. There. That's ten.
Buhbye.
Mee hee.
Have a great weekend all. :)
